Summary

* 9 hours, 45 minutes *

The 'New York Times' best-selling Queen of Twists returns…with a family reunion that leads to murder。

After years of avoiding each other, Daisy Darker’s entire family is assembling for Nana’s 80th birthday party in Nana’s crumbling gothic house on a tiny tidal island。 Finally back together one last time, when the tide comes in, they will be cut off from the rest of the world for eight hours。

The family arrives, each of them harboring secrets。 Then at the stroke of midnight, as a storm rages, Nana is found dead。 And an hour later, the next family member follows…

Trapped on an island where someone is killing them one by one, the Darkers must reckon with their present mystery as well as their past secrets, before the tide comes in and all is revealed。

With a wicked wink to Agatha Christie’s 'And Then There Were None','DAISY DARKER's unforgettable twists will leave listeners reeling。

This spooky tale takes place in an old house on its own little island off the rocky coast of Cornwall。 Somebody is killing off the members of Daisy’s family one-by-one。 I did like the story but I’m giving it 3 stars because I was able to guess the biggest plot twist pretty early on and I think she could have been a little more subtle about it。 As usual for many books with big plot twists, there was a also a little bit of over explanation at the end。 That being said, this is actually a great book This spooky tale takes place in an old house on its own little island off the rocky coast of Cornwall。 Somebody is killing off the members of Daisy’s family one-by-one。 I did like the story but I’m giving it 3 stars because I was able to guess the biggest plot twist pretty early on and I think she could have been a little more subtle about it。 As usual for many books with big plot twists, there was a also a little bit of over explanation at the end。 That being said, this is actually a great book to read during October - it’s pretty spooky and sets the mood for Halloween。 。。。more

Great creepy read and perfect for Halloween! What more can you ask for than a birthday party set on Halloween Eve at a house that is inaccessible until low tide…。 Throw in a dysfunctional family and we really have a party 🎉 🎃。 Favorite quote: There’s no need to be afraid of the dead。 It’s the living you have to watch out for。

I really enjoyed reading this book, largely for the setting description of Seaglass - it is one of those fictional places that I would wish to be able to visit in reality。I also loved the chapters that recounted past memories of the narrator。 The first person narration, although not my usual preference, adds well to the story and plot and makes it an easy read。 Overall, I would recommend this book, but if you are well-read in the crime genre it may not be as shocking as some reviews describe。 Th I really enjoyed reading this book, largely for the setting description of Seaglass - it is one of those fictional places that I would wish to be able to visit in reality。I also loved the chapters that recounted past memories of the narrator。 The first person narration, although not my usual preference, adds well to the story and plot and makes it an easy read。 Overall, I would recommend this book, but if you are well-read in the crime genre it may not be as shocking as some reviews describe。 The slight predictability and lack of character development to the standard I would have liked mean that, in my opinion, Daisy Darker is a 4 star read。 Also, I feel as thought the explanation at the end lacks a bit of credibility, although this is excusable given that it is fiction。 。。。more

I haven’t had a book give me frequent chills in a long time。 I throughly enjoyed this book and the unforeseen twist。 Throughout the whole book I could never pin down who was a choice suspect。 Alice feeney does it again for me ❤️

As soon as it dropped on my Kindle, I knew I had to forget all my other books。 This book is madness, complete and utter madness and I got caught up with it all! It's Nana's eightieth birthday and the entire Darker family has conviened to her isolated property by the sea。 What was supposed to be a celebration turns into murder, when Nana is found dead at midnight。There's no way in or out until low tide at 6am。 So it's feasable that one member of this dysfunctional family is a killer。 But this is just the start of the nightmare- on the hour, every hour another victim is discovered。 Until there was just one left。 That's when my eyes literally popped。 Not sure how people could've worked out the twist so early on, because it was totally out of the blue! The Darkers really take the meaning of dysfunctional to the ultimate level。 Gosh, there's just so much hatred and jealously aimed at each other。 It's actually quite entertaining to see this family fall apart permanently! Each and every character have flaws and evil sides, even the nicer ones, which is quite refreshing。 Daisy Darker is one of those locked room thrillers/mysteries that is impossible to work out, because all the clues are so well hidden! Pretty certain if I ever re-read it, it would remain the enigma! 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟/5 。。。more

Ohhh, I figured this out so early and absolutely did not mean to。 I was kicking myself about it, too, like, well now it's not going to be any fun, why'd you do that? And once you do, there's absolutely no chance of talking yourself out of it because it's confirmed on every page (even though I did try) BUT。 Even knowing the twist (and guessing at 1/2 of who was responsible, that final reveal was still super satisfying), it was still just as fun。 The location was so great - I loved Seaglass - and Ohhh, I figured this out so early and absolutely did not mean to。 I was kicking myself about it, too, like, well now it's not going to be any fun, why'd you do that? Well written and atmospheric but I guessed the main twist ten pages into the book。 I’m not usually someone who does so I get the impression most ppl will see it coming。 The ending, while not too surprising, is a bit darker than I expected。

2。5 The Guest List x We Were Liars If the ending was different I might have enjoyed it more? Felt like a crossover of the two books above。 I don’t usually enjoy mystery books but because it was also a thriller and on the goodreads newsletter I decided to give it a go。 In conclusion: easy read, but wouldn’t recommend。

Devin

A tad creepy。 Good thriller vibes。 Slightly heartbreaking。I don’t know why I can never seem to get an ending to a book that satisfies lately… this one does okay, but the momentum just seemed to sputter out。

Daisy Darker follows Daisy and her family gathering at Nana's house on a tiny island for Nana's 80th birthday。 Each family member has secrets they want to hide, and some have secrets they might want to come out。 This wasn't my favorite Alice Feeney book, but I did enjoy it quite a lot。 My main complaints would be that I think the bigger twist was a bit obvious for my tastes and I also didn't like/understand one of the character's actions at the end。 I really enjoyed the setting in Daisy Darker。 Daisy Darker follows Daisy and her family gathering at Nana's house on a tiny island for Nana's 80th birthday。 Each family member has secrets they want to hide, and some have secrets they might want to come out。 This wasn't my favorite Alice Feeney book, but I did enjoy it quite a lot。 My main complaints would be that I think the bigger twist was a bit obvious for my tastes and I also didn't like/understand one of the character's actions at the end。 I really enjoyed the setting in Daisy Darker。 The picture Feeney paints of the island with this somewhat dilapidated house with the tides constantly sealing you off from the outside world gave enough adrenaline to keep me burning right through this one。 In the end, even with my idea of what was going on, there was still a twist or two that caught me by surprise。 I will always recommend Alice Feeney books, her writing style and crafting of a story makes her an auto buy author for me。 。。。more

What to write! No review will do this justice! It had me guessing the whole time and second guessing what I was reading! It was an easy read even though it took me 15 or so days but once I got really into it I had a hard time putting it down!!! I did somewhat guess the ending but it was a fleeting guess。 So good!

This book is written like Ben Franklin's almanac。 If you love aphorisms and just want to apply a quip to every scene rather than have the writer, you know, actually write words to advance the story, then you'll love this。 "Words don't come with receipts。 You can't return them。" Asides like that are CONSTANT and so pithy and annoying。 It is lazy writing。 I did not enjoy and do not recommend this book。 This book is written like Ben Franklin's almanac。 If you love aphorisms and just want to apply a quip to every scene rather than have the writer, you know, actually write words to advance the story, then you'll love this。 "Words don't come with receipts。 You can't return them。" Asides like that are CONSTANT and so pithy and annoying。 It is lazy writing。 I did not enjoy and do not recommend this book。 。。。more

WHAAAAAAAT。I usually don't enjoy And Then There Were None retellings, but this was a very fun take on it。 It's full of flashbacks, atmosphere, and a mysterious person tormenting the houseguests。 And while I guessed the perpetrator of the murders with ease, I didn't see the second twist coming! I feel like on the reread, I'll see all of the foreshadowing。 My favorite part was the ominous poems throughout and now fitting the respective deaths were。 Plus with it being set in the early 2000's, there WHAAAAAAAT。I usually don't enjoy And Then There Were None retellings, but this was a very fun take on it。 It's full of flashbacks, atmosphere, and a mysterious person tormenting the houseguests。 And while I guessed the perpetrator of the murders with ease, I didn't see the second twist coming! This was a very well written, enjoyable and eerie book。 I do have to say I was a bit disappointed with this one though, due to the fact that I guessed every plot twist。

Rounded up from 2。5 stars。THE GOOD: The descriptions of the house are stunning。 The plot is halfway decent。 I liked Daisy, Trixie, Nana, and Rose。 It has a good pace; I was carried along by the storyline。THE BAD: The entire family was being killed off one by one, yet nobody grieved at all。 The plot twists could be seen a mile away。 WOULD I REREAD: No。 This might be the tipping point where I give up on Alice Feeney。

J。E。 Rowney

This was definitely more of a murder mystery than a psychological thriller and it reminded me repeatedly of the Christie novel And Then There Were None。 Except that was a lot better and that didn’t have the irritatingly awful plot twist。 Without leaving a spoiler this is my least favourite type of twist and as soon as I got to it I barely had the interest to keep reading。 Not a fan。

Deedra Lapray

So good! I did figure out part of the reveal, but not in it’s entirety。 I still loved this quirky tale。 I have to say, it was pretty unique。
